Inner City Pet Population Control
Over pet population is a tremendous problem throughout the United
States. It can be especially difficult for a caring pet owner who
is living paycheck to paycheck.
The City of Los Angeles in conjunction with the nonprofit group
- Coalition for Pets and Public Safety, have launched a mobile spay
and neuter program. The "Spay Mobile" will perform free
spays and neuters. The complimentary rabies vaccines that are administered
at this hospital on wheels insure public safety.
Over pet population is a tremendous problem throughout the United
States.
The ' clinic on the go is a fully equipped unit that can
house 25 pets. It is totally self-contained. Pets that are brought
in for surgery are released the same day. The spay-mobile will be
driven to various parks and community centers throughout the inner
city. It is hoped that upwards of 5000 pets will be served yearly.
The idea for this mobile surgical and medical facility is not
unique to Los Angeles. Dr. Robert Goldman, chief of staff, reports
that it is modeled after the Texas based Spay-Neuter Assistance
Program Inc.
For more information on the benefits of spaying and neutering
your pet, call your veterinarian or local Animal Control Agency.
