Mile High Healthy Pets
There seems to be a survey on virtually every
subject. What is the safest city in the United States to raise a
child? Where is the best place to find a job, a parking space or
the best hamburger? Now according to the Purina Pet Institute on
Healthy Pets Consortium, Denver, Colorado has been ranked the number
one city for pets.
The ranking took in to account access to veterinary care, animal
services in general and how friendly the legal system was to the
nonhuman members of our family.
Denver, Colorado has been ranked the number one city for pets.
There are over 131 million dogs and cats in the U.S. This is about
½ of the human population. Insuring the health and welfare
of our pets is becoming mainstream. More and more people are considering
their pets as truly members of their families. People are tending
to remain unmarried longer but crave someone to talk to after work.
Pets fill this void. It is not unusual for a pet caregiver to forego
a vacation because of a pet. They may even turn down a promotion
because the move would not be tolerated well by their furry loved
one.
So why was Denver rated number 1? It has the best ratio of veterinarians
to pets. It is approximately 1 vet per 1,200 critters. This city
also has the greatest number of specialists and emergency clinic
for their animal citizens. The environment is pet friendly and if
your pet suffers from flea allergy dermatitis you will definitely
want to think of relocating to this metropolis. It has the lowest
flea population in the United States.
Minneapolis was ranked number 2. California had the largest number
of cities in the top 50, with San Francisco coming in number 8,
San Diego number 11, Los Angeles 13, and Anaheim 23. The windy city
of Chicago was ranked 18. If you are an ardent pet aficionado and
live in Miami, Florida you may want to consider moving. Miami came
in dead last.
No matter where you live, you are the most important factor in
the care and well being of your pet. Do your pet a favor. See your
veterinarian on a routine basis. This is for Your Pet
Health
Matters.
