Cat Box Conundrums
. Why Some Cats Won't Use One.
The number one behavioral problem reported by cat owners is inappropriate
elimination.
In the wild, the feline species covers their scat. This is done
to prevent their next meal and other cats from sensing their presence.
So if cats are so fastidious, why do they prefer the corners of
the living room to their litter boxes?
Have you ever been obliged to use a dirty porta potty? You might
reconsider answering the call of nature. Well, cats feel the same
way.
Animal behaviorists recommend the following to insure proper cat
box etiquette.
1. Place the litter box in a quiet, secluded area. No one wants
to go potty in the middle of a freeway.
2. Use an open versus a covered box.
3. Cats typically prefer fine, unscented, clumping litter.
4. Clean the box at least once daily.
5. If you own more than one cat, use more than one litter pan and
place them is various locales in the house.
If you follow these suggestions and your cat still insists on
using your carpet or furniture as a bathroom, see your veterinarian.
Your cat may be trying to tell you that he or she is having a kidney,
bladder or bowel problem. Don't ignore it, because it is "Your
Pet
Health Matters."
