Litter Boxes for Dogs?
Puppy house training, what a bother! It can almost end a wonderful
relationship before it even begins. Trying to guess when the puppy
needs to go outside and cleaning up the messes when you don't guess
correctly has always been considered just part of raising a pup.
But now a dog owners dream has been realized, a litter box system
for dogs. It is meant to assist in house breaking puppies but can
also be used for adult small breeds on a daily basis.
The ancestors of domesticated dogs were den dwelling canines.
They did not eliminate where they lived. Crate training puppies
is based on the same principle. Some owners just don't like the
idea. For those pet owners that live in apartments or condominiums
where it is not easy to get the pet outside or for those that work
long hours, this can really tax the constitution of even the best-intentioned
dog.
A paper based pelleted litter system was recently introduced in
pet stores. Field trials have shown that most puppies were successfully
using the "dog boxes" after one long weekend.
The pellets absorb moisture, are trackless, odor deterring and
don't tempt dogs to eat them. A specially designed tray is durable,
easily entered, and has high enough sides that even an adult male
dog can use it without soiling the floor.
Aah, finally some relief for that indoor dog and a reprieve for
your carpet.
