Is Your Dog Afraid of Loud Noises?
Drs. Nicholas Dodman and Linda Aronson, at Tufts New England Veterinary
Medical Center in Massachusetts are doing some exciting research
into the use of melatonin as a treatment for noise phobias. In the
May issue of 'The Whole Dog Journal" they report on one dog
who was afraid of songbirds. It was quieted after being treated
with melatonin.
The hormone, melatonin, is usually thought of as a sleeping aid.
However, its action is not by sedation. It is simply calming. If
your dog responds fearfully to loud or unusual noises, talk to your
veterinarian and see if this over the counter supplement is an option.
Because it is "Your Pet
Health Matters."
