Pet Abuse May Lead to Interpersonal Abuse.
As a pet lover, you would never intentionally think of hurting
a furry member of your family. But how many of us have ever been
tempted to spank a dog that has chewed up a favorite shoe or physically
chastise a cat that has clawed a piece of furniture?
Frustration can lead to anger. Anger can lead to physical acts
that could injure another. It is important to remember, pets will
test your tolerance. They do not commit acts of vengeance or spite.
But they will not always behave in the manner that we want. The
reason may be illness, behavioral disorders or a lack of regular
training on our parts.
It is especially important to teach patience and kindness to
young pet owners. Parental supervision can help to instill proper
values for pet care. Lessons learned here can serve as a foundation
for loving interpersonal relationships later in life. Kindness,
patience and understanding are important, because it is "Your
Pet
Health Matters."
