Your Veterinarian and MD Together May Help You and Your Pet to
Walk Again.
Severe spinal cord trauma can occur to pets as well as people.
This type of injury has typically resulted in permanent nerve damage.
Now the ability to heal these nerves may be a reality.
The Center for Paralysis Research at Purdue University has found
an implant device that not only helps to regenerate damaged nerves
but it also helps to direct their regrowth. Purdue scientists are
also investigating the use of a chemical polymer that when applied
to traumatized nerve endings, stops the progression of the damage
and within hours allows nerve impulses to course through the treated
site.
Three-dimensional holograms are being used by veterinarians and
MDs to view damaged cord tissue, just as though they were surgically
exploring the spot, but without the risks of surgery.
Veterinarians and MDs are helping to unlock the mysteries that
occur with spinal cord trauma. By working together we all benefit
and that's important because it is "Your Pet
Health Matters."
