Food Allergies Could Be Causing Your Dog's Kidney Disease.
Kidney disease is the number three cause of death in senior citizen
dogs. The reason for the failure, usually remains unknown. One of
the most common forms of this malady is 'glomerular disease.' Studies
in human medicine have found a link between food allergies and this
form of kidney degeneration. A North Carolina State University,
at Raleigh, veterinarian, Dr. Shelly Vaden is investigating whether
a similar relationship holds true for dogs.
Dogs are being screened for the presence of substances in their
stool, that is know to be associated with food allergies in people.
If the study shows a correlation between food allergies and canine
glomerular disease, it is hoped that the removal of the offending
food substances will lead to remission as occurs with people. Another
example where human and veterinary medicine are working together
because it is "Your Pet...Health Matters."
