Could You be Saving Money but Poisoning Your Pet?
A trip to your veterinarian may seem pricey, but trying to save
money by giving over the counter medications can be deadly.
Though pets are now truly part of the family, they are not furry
little humans. Cats and dogs often are given many of the same medications
that we take but the dosage and frequency of administration can
vary tremendously.
The signs of an adverse reaction may include vomiting, disorientation,
a racing or possibly slowed heart rate.
Accidental ingestion of an owner's medication can be very serious.
If you suspect that a pet may have swallowed a tablet that you dropped
on the floor, don't wait. See you veterinarian immediately and take
the medicine bottle with you. Also try to "guestimate"
how many pills the pet may have gotten in to.
The best way to avoid accidental poisoning? Never administer any
drug to your pet unless it has been prescribed for that particular
pet. If in doubt, call your regular veterinarian or your local pet
emergency hospital because it is "Your Pet...Health Matters."
