Eat First, Think Later, A Pet Will Eat Almost Anything.
Pets are curious about their environment. One of the common ways
they explore their world is by tasting it, and sometimes swallowing.
How do you know if your pet has swallowed something potentially
dangerous. You may have observed it. Suspect it by finding only
one sock instead of two, or most commonly your pet doesn't want
to eat and may have changes in its bowel patterns.
A visit to your veterinarians and x-rays are often needed. Some
items readily show up on x-rays like bones, rocks or metal, but
some objects, like plastic or cloth do not and can make the diagnosis
much more difficult.
The best way to prevent potential problems is to not allow pets
access to the trash, and offer only pet safe toys, ones they can
not swallow.
If you suspect a problem, see your veterinarian because it is "Your
Pet...Health Matters."
