Cancer, it can affect every member of your family, even your pet.
The number one cause of death in our senior citizen pets is cancer.
As with people, the cause is mostly unknown. All of our companion
animals are susceptible to this terrible disease, fish to frogs,
Persian to poodles.
The types of cancer range from skin, bones to internal organs
plus many more. Usually it is the owner that first discovers the
problem. A bump or a sudden change in weight up or down may be all
that is seen. The signs can be very vague. An accurate diagnosis
is made by the veterinarian. Tissue sampling, a a biopsy, is the
usual means by which this is done.
Just because you have been told that your pet has cancer, doesn't
mean you need to give up hope. Cancer is the most curable of the
chronic diseases. Many forms of treatments are available.
How best to safeguard your pet from cancer. Get routine physical
examinations. Early spay and neutering can also help tremendously.
