When Fido becomes Feeble:
Senility can occur to every one in your household
- people as well as pets.
Advances in veterinary medicine are allowing
our pets to live longer and
healthier lives. With increased age, also comes the chance that
they will experience many of the same older age physical and mental
changes that we see in our aging human population.
Studies have shown that senior citizen pets
suffer similar brain lesions found in people with Alzheimer's disease.
Older pets may become confused, stare into space, lose house training,
interact less with the family and generally have a decrease in their
quality of life.
Medications are now available to help reverse
many of these symptoms. To see if your golden aged pet could benefit
from these drugs, a physical examination by your veterinarian and
possible lab work is recommended.
