There are over 800,000 dog bites reported every year in the U.S. Over 1/2 of these bites are sustained by children. Aprox. 12 bites to people result in death. Children, the elderly and postal workers (in that order) are most frequently bitten. The USPS wants people to be aware of the dangers of dog bites and what can be done to insure that your dog will not bite anyone (any breed, any age dog can bite) and that you or a family member will not be bitten. More information on dog bites can be obtained at www.avma.org.

New York was the starting location of the "Play More" campaign for the arthritis pain control medication, Deramaxx. Bernadine was involved in a satellite media tour while there with one of the top dog trainers in Manhattan, Ms. Andrea Arden. She presented a check for $10,000 to Tompkins Square Dog Park on behalf of Novartis Animal Health. She will be going to 4 other cities in the next several weeks to present similar grants to the other parks that are part of the top 10 dog parks in the United States. These dog parks were chosen by Dog Fancy magazine. The criteria was based on safety for dogs as well as their providing educational opportunities for the dog owners, to name but two areas of consideration. The grants are to assist the parks in increasing their accessibility to senior dogs and dogs that suffer with osteoarthritis.

For more information, check with their local dog park. Information on dog parks in general and health tips for senior dogs can be obtained at www.playmoremagazine.com.
